WITH REGARD TO:

1. PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE, I:

Worry about what lies ahead.

Am obsessed with what I need to do, or deny the need to do anything about even obvious, practical matters.

Combine faith and planning to address realistic possibilities.

2. AMBITION, I:

Fall short of expectations.

Redouble my efforts to achieve my goals, either exhausting myself or giving up.

Achieve self-acceptance of both my strengths and limitations, continuing to set and work towards goals without allowing them to drive me to injure myself.

3. LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS, I:

View toxic relationships with past, current or potential mates/friends/relatives as the norm.

Try too hard and settle for less than I deserve, or generally turn my back on the possibility of love.

Make choices that are loving and forgiving but self-protective.

4. PARENTING GROWN CHILDREN, I:

Perceive my children's success to be a reflection of my own self worth.

Hang on to unhealthy ways of relating, or disown my relationship with them entirely.

Accept a new, healthier relationship with my grown children and relish my own independence.

5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS, including both regrets and unfulfilled goals, I:

Am unable or unwilling to address past issues.

Feel open-ended guilt, shame or regret.

Pursue my dreams and find closure by making appropriate amends.

6. BEAUTY, I:

Define success in life by my looks.

Strive for perfection or let myself go.

Enjoy being my best possible self, within the context of my age and circumstances.

7. HEALTH, I:

Think of illness as a shortcoming or as punishment.

Fret excessively, or I become neglectful of my body's needs.

Do what I can to stay healthy, knowing that while some things are out of my control, the best possible outcome is always something for which I can work and hope.

8. INEVITABILITIES, including caregiving, loss and mortality, I:

Relate to decline and death as something to be feared, or as a sign of personal failure.

Become hyper-vigilant, or deny others' as well as my own mortality.

Deal responsibly with the issues as they arise, taking time to mourn the losses and establishing a healthy regard for my own mortality.

9. CREATING A LEGACY, I:

Believe life is measured by external standards.

Deny the impact I make every day.

Recognize my potential to influence the world without concern about getting credit.

10. MEANING, I:

Remain dissatisfied, wondering what's wrong with me that I just can't be happy with what I have.

Rage against my sense of meaningless or ignore my deep, diffuse yearnings.

Cultivate acceptance of life's mysteries, embracing myself and others with compassion.
